NEW PLYMOUTH WORK
CUP CANDIDATES PLEASE CHEVAL DE VOLEE AND PEERLESS Although once again there was not a great deal of galloping, the appearance of several visiting horses on the track lent interest to yesterday morning’s work at New Plymouth. Both the plough and the outside of the course proper were available for fast work. Glenthawn sprinted three furlongs in 39sec. Platter (Dowrick) and Sporting Song (Savage) jumped a couple of fences down the back stretch in good style. Peerless finished four lengths clear of Chat at the end of live furlongs on the outside of the course propei in 1.4 3-5. Peerless is usually a poor track worker, but she hit out freely. She is in line shape for Thursday. Wynardo (Gray) rapped a couple of fences but otherwise gave a very sound display for a novice in a round over the schooling hurdles. Pearl of Asia was always under a strong hold in getting to the end of half a mile in 56 2-ssec. Namara, assisted by Mullamond over the last live, got to the end of a mile on the plough in 1.43 L Namara is in excellent snape and worked boldly. 11. Wiggins is Ikely to ride him in the Cup. Fils de Vaals and Fleur d’Or set out to gallop live furlongs on the plough but the former broke away on to the trial grass. Fleur d’Or ran her live in 1.7, but it was not a proper trial. Corato sprinted three furlongs very comfortably on the plough in 38sec. He could have done much better. Highball ran a round on the plough at working gallop pace. The main feature of the morning was the effort of Cheval de Volee, who was going easily to finish in front of Te Morehu with Booklaw several lengths back, seven furlongs on the plough being covered in 1.30 4.5. ■ Cheval de Volee had a lot in reserve, working particularly well. K. James, who won the Taranaki Stakes on him two years ago, is mentioned as his Cup rider. Booklaw shaped pleasingly for a jumper. Aussie Ra covered a round at easy working gallop pace. .Windsor Chief sprinted home the last three furlongs of pacework in 40sec. Additional riding engagements announced include:— B. H. Morris.—Trebor, Peerless, Drachma, Oratory. G. R. Tattersall. -Pearl of Asia. Pv. McTavish.-Sang Bleu. J. Logan. —Mullamond. J. F. Fergus.—Wynardo. 1 S. Edwards.—-Life Guard, Red Sand. ; N.
