PALUSTRE SPELLING PENZANCE'S INJURIES MISS VALEKIE S PROGRESS. SACCONE RESUMES WORK. R. Miller has added to his team a shapely yearling filly by Vaals— Lomint, the newcomer arriving there last Wednesday. Lomint was a fine performer herself, while Vaals has made his mark this season and occupies a very prominent place on the winning sires' list. Naturally this filly's future will be watched with interest. Penzance was badly galloped on attire recent Te Aroha meeting and the Raceful filly is likely to be out of action for some time. Penzance's preparations this season have frequently been interrupted with similar occurrences, otherwise her record would have been considerably better. Bronze Trail has been turned out on his owner s property for a few weeks' spell. The Bronze Eagle gelding won at the spring meeting at Ellerslie, but his subsequent form has been disappointing. E. Pope is breaking in a particu-larly-nice-looking gelding by Tea Tray—Black-eyed Susen, and the youngster is taking to his education in a very kindly manner. He has been very well done, and if appearances count for anything he should develop into a very useful galloper. Rey Lu, who had been shaping disappointingly in his work since his arrival there, has been turned out for a spell, while Vaalso, a recent addition to the same stable, was treated to a course of physic after his arrival, and he has not been asked for any strenuous exercises as yet. The Vermeer- Lady Lois colt, recently acquired for Mr. M. J. Moodabe, has been broken in by E. Pope, and is a very docile youngster, who has taken to his education in a kindly manner. This colt has not finished growing, and to all appearances will eventually mould into a very attractive two-year-old. Since their arrival there neither Marie's Acre nor Philcourt has been indulged in any really serious work, but they are looking well, and it should not be long before they are again ready to acquit themselves well. They suffered a temporary lapse after racing in the spring, but back to their best again, they will be easily placed to advantage. This pair are now members of A. Tinker’s stable. Bachelor King, has also been treated to a spell, being eased up after the Te Aroha meeting. It is not intended to continue another preparation until the ground becomes easier, and, being partial to soft going, he should be an ideal winter proposition. A novice who has shown some pace is the Vaals filly Miss Valerie, who despite the fact that she has not been up long, has been seen to advantage on the tracks. Miss Valerie has yet to face the starter, but she shows promise of being a very useful filly when she has gained experience. King's Lancer was schooled recently and acquitted himself in a very creditable manner. A good performer in the south when racing a couple of seasons ago, he was a winner over fences, and the fact that he is partial to soft going indicates that he may be a useful hurdler for winter racing. Cometarium has brightened up a great deal since joining A. Tinker's stable, and it should not be long before he is ready to race. Cometarium has. some fine performances to his credit on the flat, and he should prove a welcome addition to the ranks of jumpers in the near future. Saccone, who since his return from Melbourne has been treated to a spell, is again in work and is alreadyshowing much of his former dash. Saccone was a much-boomed gelding as a two-year-old. but so far he has failed to get on the winning list. If his present rate of progress is maintained, however, the Surveyor gelding may not be long in scoring his initial uncross He has been nominated for the Tauranga meeting. Palustre has been turned out for a spell, but her period of idleness is not expected to he of long duration, and this should serve to freshen up her nicely for autumn engagements. Palustre scored twice at the Christmas meeting, but since then her Rotorua and Te-Aroha efforts did not see her at her best. Gay Movie has returned to work looking well after a respite, and the Sargon filly should not lake long to again reach her best. With a number of minor placings to her credit this season she was a little unlucky in not gaining the thick end of a purse, but she will have further opportunities before the close of the season.
