N.Z. RAILWAYS MAGAZINE

FEATURES OF MARCH ISSUE. With 60 pictures, including two in full colours, and a wide range of special atricles, the March Issue of the New Zealand Railways Magazine maintains its high standard. Ken Alexander, with humorous verse, witty prose and droll drawings does full justice to the title of his article. “Get Fit or Go Phut.” O. N. Gillespie’s article on New Zealand's progress in engineering will be a revelation to many people who have not been in touch with the big developments. Joyce West has a charming treaties on lakeland of Taupo. Aroha Bruce’s ‘‘Adventures with Bingo,” very brightly written, will please children and their elders. Neville R. Lewers cleverly reveals the lure of highways and byways of Canterbury. Many mountaineers will be thoroughly interested in John Magurk’s description of ascents of Ruapehu in 1883. Another good survey of the past is in an article on the New Zealand Railways of 1881. Leo Fanning has a light chat on surprises. “Helen” in her excellent section for women, has some wise remarks on “middleage” of woman. W. F. Ingram, one of New Zealand’s best sporting writers, has another welcome instalment of “Panorama of the Playground.” Other features include original verse and notes and comments on books and authors. for Auckland (due April 8), and New Plymouth.
