PROTEST MEETING IN SYDNEY
REMOVAL OF N.Z. EMBARGO TO BE URGED N.S.W. FRUITGROWERS SEEK RECIPROCAL TRADE. SYDNEY. March 3. A meeting of producers, consumers, and merchants to protest against the “high price of potatoes brought about by the embargo on supplies from New Zealand,” will be held in Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday. The meeting will be convened by the Embargo Abolition League, the Housewives’ Association, and the Master Fish Merchants’ Association. Mr. R. B. Walker, M.L.A., will preside. The secretary of the Master Fish Merchants’ Association said that, members will close their shops for two hours on Wednesday to attend the meeting. Legislation to fix the prices of fruit is urged by the Fruit Inquiry Commissioner. Mr. J. E. McCulloch, in a report released by the Premier, Mr. B. S. B. Stevens.
The regulated admission of New Zealand potatoes is recommended with a view to reciprocal trade in cherries, bananas, and citrus fruit.
