PLUNKET NURSE FAREWELLED
FUNCTION AT PATEA Correspondent) PATEA, Feb. 15. The committee of the Patea Plunket Society, and mothers, farewelled the Plunket nurse, Miss G. Tompkins, who is leaving on an extended visit to Australia, on Tuesday evening in tile Town Hail supper room. Miss Tompkins’ gown was nut brown heavy georgette with acquamarine and nut brown sash, and she was presented with autumn-tinted posy by the president, Mrs. R. W. Haddow. who wore black fantasy, with ecru trimmings. The secretary, Mrs. L Honeyfield. was wearing pink and black floral with black velvet coatee. Amusing competitions were won by Mrs, Henry and Mrs. T. Cardiff, and items were given by Mr. I. Jones and Mrs. T. Cardiff.
It was very gratifying, said t.ie president, to see so many present to give best wishes to nurse. Four vears ago they had said good-bye to Miss Horrell, the Plunket nurse, and were sure no one would be able to till her place, but Miss Tompkins han most wonderfully clone so. On behalf of the Plunket Society and committee. the president expressed best wishes and grateful thanks to Miss Tompkins for the way she had carried out her work. Other speakers were Mrs. R. Hunger ion behalf of the executive committee), Mr. T. E. Roberts (men’s advisory board), and Mrs. W. F. Sheilds (past president). Mrs. J. Haarer, speaking for the
young mothers, said Miss Tompkins had been a worthy nurse of a very wonderful system and had never put herself first.
Mrs. T. E. Roberts spoke for absent mothers. , Mrs. Haddow then presented Miss Tompkins with a handsome blacK handbag. . ,
Whatever she had done, was w hat she was here to do, said Miss Tompkins, replying. It was an interesting district and a large number of the mothers were anxious to do the best for their babies. The further she went in Plunket work the more worthwhile it was. She thanked the committee for their interest, whicn had made her work easier, and all her friends. A Maori mother made a presentation of two crystal dishes to the nurse.
