VISITOR’S PRAISE New Zealand women’s dress was praised by Mrs. T. D. Blake, of San Francisco, who has, in company with her husband and mother-in-law, just completed a twelve days' tour of the North Island. Mrs. Blake said she had seen no signs of New Zealand women being behind the times as far as fashion was concerned. Unfortunately during most of the time she had been in New Zealand most of the stores hau been closed and she had had no opportunity to judge of the class of goods they were offering for sale. She had not met many New Zealanders but those with whom she had talked she had found friendly and charming. As residents of California the three visitors are no strangers to earth tremors, but Mrs. Blake was disappointed to find that she had mistaken the sharp shake a few days ago for something else. “I was in a Napier hairdressing saloon when the shake occurred,” she said, “and I remarked ‘That must have been an awful big truck that just went past.’ The young lady attending to me explained that it was an earthquake.”
