DON BRADMAN AN APPLICANT

MELBOURNE CRICKET SECRETARY THE MATTER ADJOURNED. MELBOURNE, Dec. 21. Among the applicants for the post of secretary of the Melbourne Cricket Club is Don Bradman, captain of the Australian Eleven. The committee met last night, but in the absence of several members consideration was deferred until early in the new year. Although there is no certainty that Bradman will be appoinfed he must be regarded as a highly favoured ap-

plicant. He is a world-famous figure, and has the personality and the ability to make a success of this £l,ooo-a--year position. Before he is appointed, however, there are several important questions to be decided. As far as his cricket ability is concerned he is regarded as the logical choice as captain of the Australian Eleven for the next few years, including the next tour of England in 1942. Bradman would probably have no hesitation in resigning as a player to devote his time to such an appointment, but the committee would have to consider whether it should deprive Australia of a champion player. It is possible, of course, that leave of absence would be granted. Bradman is at present in the stockbroking business of Messrs. H. W. Hodeetts and Co.. of Adelaide.
