INTERNATIONAL SPIES

FAVOURITES AT REGENT "BULLDOG DRUMMOND IN AFRICA” Right in line with the present difficulties over international spy rings is the latest “Bulldog Drummond” mystery film, “Bulldog Drummond in Africa,” commencing at the Regent Theatre on Saturday. The story, of course, comes from the pen of H. C. "Sapper” McNeile, creater of the ever-popular "Drummond” character. With the theft of military secrets as its central theme, the picture shows the length to which determined spies will go to carry out their plans. They include the kidnapping of "Colonel Nielson,” the head of Scotland Yard, and his removal from his English country estate to the Moroccan hill country, the posting of one spy as a British diplomatic official, the bombing of an aeroplane attempting to rescue "Nielson” and, finally, the use of medieval tortures to extract secrets from unwilling victims. John Howard, appearing as “Bulldog Drummond” for the fourth time, will be seen in the title role. Newcomers to Lhe "Drummond” cast include the lovely Heather Angel, the English star, who has the role of “Phyllis Clavering,” H. B. Warner, cast as the head of Scotland Yard, and J. Carrol Naish. who plays the leader of the spy ring. Spencer Tracy must be well again. M-G-M are announcing him for quantities of pictures. One is "A Gun in His Hand.” Another is “New Y'ork Cinderella” with Hedy LaMarr.
