NEW STREET LIGHTS

In the space of four years over 700 miles of streets and highways in Great Britain have been made safer by the installation of electric discharge lamps. This development may be said to have revolutionised street lightning. Deptford has the distinction of being the first borough to be lighted by this system throughout. One of the latest installations is that at Billingham-on-Tees, an industrial centre that has sprung up since the war around the extensive works of Imperial Chemical Industries in the district. In this instance some 280 units, housed in lanterns suspended .from steel columns, are employed.
