FURIOUS OFFENSIVE BY FRANCO’S FORCES
HUGE REBEL GAINS Received Jan. 3, 1 a.m. SARAGOSA, Jan. 2. Furious fighting in the main sectors attends General Franco’s Catalonian offensive. Every available plane is engaged. Thaw hampers the tanks. Italian divisions, including the Littoria which, at Signor Mussolini’s request, led the assault, are jeopardised owing to a loyalist counter-attack. The rebels claim the capture of Albages, Poblade, Granadella, and Cubells. The total rebel gain is 346 square miles on a hundred-mile front.
