TRADE IMPROVEMENT
PROSPECTS FOR 1939 SIR JOHN SIMON OPTIMISTIC. Received Jan. 2, 11.30 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 1. ‘There are definite signs of better trade,” said Sir John Simon, discussing the prospects for 1939. He added that this was not mere optimism on his part but a conclusion reached from evidence. He stressed *he improvement in the United States and said the general conclusion was that the serious sudden drop had been stopped and the curve of trade was rising.
