MAJESTIC THEATRE
“LOVE FINDS ANDY HARDY’’ The Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer comedy “Love Finds Andy Hardy,” which is screening to-day at the Majestic Theatre, is a picture which will appeal to all members of the family It is the fourth and best of the series of films dealing with the adventures and worries of Judge Hardy's amusing American family, and those who have enjoyed their performances before, will not be disappointed with the present production. The success of the film is largely due to the outstanding performance given by Mickey Rooney, although good support is given by Judy Garland, Lewis Stone and Fay Holden. Rooney has been described by English critics as the best boy actor of to-day, but after seei.tg this film, one might be justified in ranking him with the best actors of the screen of any age. His range of expression is extraordinary. He is at one moment all energy and clumsiness—just a 15-year-old nuisance about the house . Then he becomes serious, treating his trifling love affairs as matters of extreme importance. Again, he becomes wildly enthusiastic about dn ancient, third-hand motorcar he is buying. All the time Rooney is brilliantly amusing. Judy Garland fulfils the promise she showed in her earlier films, with an entertaining performance, in addition to singing a number of new Gordon and Revel compositions. The story commences when Mrs. Hardy (Fay Holden) is called away to Canada owing to her mother’s illness, and her daughter Marian, portrayed by Cecilia Parker, is left in charge of the household. During his mother’s absence Andy (Rooney) proceeds to become involved in three love affairs, much to his embarrassment and amazement. When the big ball of the year is drawing near, Andy is in a complicated position because he has had to promise each of the girls that he will take her to the dance. He seeks the advice of his father and his troubles are finally ended. There will be a late matinee tonight, commencing at 10.15 p.m.
