THE NAZI’ PARTY WEALTH OF CATHOLICS REPORTED PLAN FOR FINES [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] LONDON, Dec. 4. Reynolds’ News declares that Germany, having confined the Jews to the ghettoes, is at present preparing to attack Catholics, casting covetous eyes on their wealth, and planning a “fine” to redeem their churches and church property. The paper quotes a recent speech by Herr Rosenberg, director of the Foreign Office of the Nazi Party, in which he said: ‘The Catholic Church and also the Protestant Confessional Church in their present form must disappear from the life of our people.” The Sunday Pictorial declares: “The Nazis are attempting to blackmail the Pope into withdrawing his anti-Hitler propaganda by threatening the life of Dr. Schuschnigg, who is gravely ill in a one-roomed prison at the top of a Vienna hotel.” It is believed that the Pope was preparing an encyclical before his recent illness denouncing religious and racial persecution.
The Nazi Teachers’ Association has instructed members to discontinue religious instruction in schools because the Bible ■ glorified the people from whom came the murderer Grynszpan.
