CONVERSION OF CYCLE
YOUNG MAN FINED A young man, who converted a bicycle to his own use, and did not take steps to trace the owner, was discharged without conviction and his name was suppressed in the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday, by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M. Detective-Sergeant J. K. Robertson stated that accused had visited the Grand Hotel on October 17, and on coming out discovered that his bicycle was missing. He took another one and rode it to the Albion Hotel and later used it to ride to work, where it was discovered by the owner. The seat and handle bars had been readjusted. Mr. V. B. Willis, who appeared for accused, put in a plea for leniency, as accused had hitherto borne an excellent character. The magistrate said that in these
cases where bicycles were taken from outside hotels there was a certain amount of muddle among'men because of drinking, and they took bicycles by mistake. He advised accused to give up drinking, and added that young men should not waste their money in hotel bars.
