SHOOTING
WANGANUI DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED TEAMS AND TROPHY MATCHES The Wanganui Defence Rifle Club opened its season on Labour Day with the usual president v. vice-president teams match in the morning. The president's team won by a margin of 26 points. The weather was showery during the day with the light fairly good. Some very good scores were registered. L. Garner got the first possible of the season at 300 yards and A. Doidge, W. Howard and J. O'Keeffe at 500 yards. In the afternoon a trophy competition was fired, seven shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards. Heavy rain set in just before the finish and several members were unable to shoot. W. Jones was the winner with 103 and M. Jones runner-up with 102. H. Hughes and W. Jones both got the possible at 500 yards. Next Saturday the shoot will be at 300 yards. Most competitions this season will be double range shoots. Details of Monday's shooting are:—
