WRECKAGE OF MISSING BARQUE?
BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 8.
The Ministry of Marine has announced that it is believed some shipwreckage found on the southern Argentine coast is that of the missing barque Admiral Karpfanger.
All hope for those on board the German training ship Admiral Karpfanger, 2853 tons, was abandoned after the ship had been missing for several months. The vessel became uninsurable at Lloyd's after 90 guineas per cent, had been quoted for reinsurance. She sailed frem Port Germein, South Australia, for Falmouth on February 8, and her last reported position was about 400 miles from the coast of New Zealand on March 1, but she acknowledged receipt of a wireless message on March 12 The Admiral Karpfanger was a four-masted barque built in 1908 as the Belgian training ship L’Avenir, under which name she traded to Australian for grain. Last year she was acquired by the Hamburg-Amerika Line and was on her naiden voyage as a training ship witli 60 German cadets when she came into the overdue market at Lloyd’s, where tbe vessel was insured on a value of iSt.OOO. The general opinion was that she met ice in southerly latitudes and sank.
