WANGANUI MUSICIANS IN Al STKALIA , News comes from Australia of the success of three Wanganui artists, the j Bridges Trio, who have been broadcasting over 4QG, Brisbane, for 12 months and are now a highlight of I the variety session every Thursday night. Clifford Bridges is the eldest of the trio and is the pianist. He also plays the violoncello, marimba-xyiopnonc, tenor guitar, and sings. He has licentiate and associate diplomas of the Trinity College of Music, London, for pianoforte, and studied at the State Conservatorium of Music, Sydney, un- | der Mr. Frank Hutchins for pianoforte, and Mr. Gladstone Beil for I 'cello. While in Sydney he was ’cellisv lin Mr. Arnold Mote's orchestra and I Mr. Alfred Hill’s orchestra. ' Clifford Bridges is responsible for J the novel arrangements which are t. feature of the trio’s work, especially on the marimba-xylophone. As there are only two other ensembles of this type in the world- three playing the one marimba simultaneously —no music is written for it. Francis (Babe) Bridges, the youngest member of the Bridges irio, plays I the marimba-xylophone, the harp, the I Hawaiian guitar, and sings and dances. | She studied the harp under Madame | Louise Metiers at tne Sydney Consei--1 vatoriu.m of Music. Francis Bridges has nother instrument to her credit which she has not yet played in Brisbane, and that is the timpani, which she played in the Wanganui Orchestral Society under the oaton of Mr. Will Hutchens, Mus. Bac. Nancye Bridges plays tne violin, the marimba-xylopnone, and Hawaiian guitar, and sings and dances. She has licentiate and associate diplomas of the Trinity College of Music, London, for violin, and studied under Mr. Florent Hoogstool at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. While in Sydney she played first violin in the Conservatorium orchestra and Messrs. Alfred Hill’s and Arnold Mote’s orchestras. Both girls have written articles and musical compositions which have been published.
