SPRING HANDICAP WIN MARIE'S ACRE AND GAY SON FINAL DAY AT ELLERSLIE [ Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 10. Showery weather was experienced for the second day of the Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting at Ellerslie to-day. The attendance was 7000, compared with 8000 last year. The track was fast. The totalisator handled £27,083 10s, compared with £29,764 10s last year, a decrease of £2681. The figures for the meeting were £69,379, compared with £72,412 last year, a decrease of £3033. Prince Acre and Orate were the first away and Orate led past the half-mile from Bachelor King, Palustre and Royal Bachelor. The field was spread across the track at the distance and Marie’s Acre finished best to win by a neck from Orate, with a similar distance to Palustre. Prince Acre was a close fourth, followed by Mon Acre and Trilliarch.

From a good start Shy made play along the back and at the halfmile was three lengths clear of Round Up, King Rey. Happy Landing. Kilonsa and Mazir. The field was in close order turning into the straight and Mazir was just in front with 100 yards to go, staying on to win by a nose from Round Up, which defeated Kilonsa by a neck.
