HOUSEWIFE WINS CONTEST

A Nottinghamshire miner's wife has just been chosen out. of 5000 women as “the most representative British housewife.” She is Mrs. F. M. Millward, of Mansfield, and she was chosen because she had had six children, had been married 21 years, was a wonderful “budgeteer,” and was really happy. Mrs. Millward, who is a member of the local women’s institute and of the women’s section of the British Legion, thinks it is a fatal mistake for married women to have no interest outside the home. Her views coincide with those of Mr. Lewis Casson, actorhusband of Dame Sybil Thorndike, who thinks it is an excellent thing for a married woman to have a job. He believes that “too much domesticity is bad for all.”
