BRIGHT FANCY DRESS CARNIVAL
KEITH STREET SCHOOL LAST NIGHT’S HAPPY FUNCTION A fancy dress party is always a source of great joy to children, especially the younger ones who love dressing up. This was in evidence last evening when the pupils of Keith Street School assembled at the Glasgow Street Hall for their fancy dress carnival, which had been arranged by the headmistress, Miss G. E. Ross, her enthusiastic staff of teachers ana the parents’ committee. The scene was one of brightness and animation as the little people in their pretty and quaint costumes danced their various dances. The grand march by the primers, followed by Standard I, gave the large audience of parents and friends the opportunity of seeing all the fancy costumes and posters. There were characters from fairy tales, film stars, and dresses of all nationalities, also some very cleverly contrived novel costumes, which attracted considerable attention. Music was provided by an electric gramophone,' supervised by Mr. H. Hooker. On behalf of the parents, Mrs. C. A. White presented Miss Ross with a bouquet and to each member of the staff a spray. The parents had provided a bountiful supper for the children, the officials of the Working Men’s Club kindly placing the club supper room at the disposal of the committee, who worked hard to make the occasion a happy one for the children. The long tables were decorated in the school colours, mauve and pink. The committee comprised Mesdames C. A. White (convener), K. Rivers, J. Harris, R. Rennie, H, Burnand, K. Baxter, Tindale, S. Glenn, Mathews, Smithies, T. Hodgson, Hilton, Kenyon, D. Persson, Mortenson, A. Reid. Walford, Mummery, Charles, and Kitchemann. Miss Ross thanked the mothers for their wonderful help, particularly in contributing the supper, and spoke of the school life of the children and the co-operation between parents and school. She urged the parents to take advantage of the dental service available to the children and also spoke ot the milk supplied for the benefit of the children and asked that every child take advantage of this. Mr. G. M. Kenyon, chairman of the committee, expressed thanks on behalf of the committee to the teaching staff, the parents, and the St. John’s Working Men’s Club for generously giving the use of the hall free; also for the use of the club supper room and th? assistance given by club officials, especially Mr. Smithies. Mr. Hopper was thanked for supplying the music and donating and printing the tickets free of charge. Mr. A. Charles, secretary of the committee, in a short speech of thanks, asked the parents to bring the Parents’ Association up to an effective and live organisation, in order that the committee might feel that whatever they do they have the active co-operation of the parents. He i said the committee can only adminI ister what is provided for them and I they got from the board necessities, I but for the luxuries they must look i to the association and herefore would like their more active co-operation in all they are seeking to do.
