SKID ON FROZEN ROAD
CAR PLUNGES INTO A CREEK ONE OF THREE OCCUPANTS DROWNED ( Per ress Association.] GORE, July 19. A fatal accident occurred on the Dunedin-Gore highway four miles north of Clinton yesterday, when a car driven by G. P. Latimer, Dunedin, with Thomas Waddell, Gore, and W. Beal, Gore, as passengers skidded on the frozen surface of the road, plunged over a 15 foot bank, and landed in ja creek, Waddell being drowned. Latimer and Beal managed to scramble out of the window on the driver’s side, but Waddell was trapped in the submerged cab for some minutes. When released, Waddell w.ui unconscious. Artificial respiration was applied, but it was of no avail. As far
as is known, Waddell suffered no external injuries. The other occupants escaped injury. Waddell was single and a native os Chertsey, North Canterbury. He served his apprenticeship as a fitter in the Addington Railway Workshops. For the last eight years he was employed by the International Harvester Company.
