DOMINION’S POSITION
BRITISH M.P.’s OBSERVATIONS LONDON, May 23. Mr. Stokes, M.P., managing-direc-tor of Messrs. Ransomes and Rapier, in a letter to the newspapers, says he is surprised that the marked improvements in New Zealand’s economic position have not been Trailed in Britain with the satisfaction usual on such occasions. “It is an indubitable fact that the buying power of the urban and rural populations in- New Zealand has increased in the past two years,” says Mr. Stokes. “There has been stabilisation of earnings in the dairying industry as a result of the Government's guaranteed price scheme. “It also makes it difficult to understand the slight, but persistent, fall in New Zealand stocks. ‘Bulls’ and 'bears’ should note Mr. Savage’s repudiation of the mischievous rumour that he contemplates a tariff inimical to manufacturers in Britain.”
