CONCERT AM) DANCE PROCEEDS IN AID OF NEW COURT A very successful concert and dance under the auspices of the Fordell Ten- < j nis Club was held in the public hali, • ■ there being a large attendance. The stfrge was effectively decorated; I with large bowls of autumn flowers j ' and berries. The programme present.- • ■ ed was as follows: Piper F. Morgan.' Scottish airs; Miss Noelle Annand, i sailor's hornpipe; Mr J. Howie, vccai . solos; Miss Alice Rogers, musical : monologue, “The Menin Gate” ano I “Polling Day"; Mrs K. Aiken, vocal [solos; Mr Jordan, iong shoe comedian, j as “Mrs Oswald”; mouthorgan dun., “The Turakina Boys”; vocal solos, Mr ; Jack Howie; musical monologue ■ “Let's Pretend,” and “Just Like a Man,” Miss A. Rogers; banjo and guitar duet, also a quartette by the “Turakina Boys.” In thu second hall of the programme the Fordell Women’s institute drama circle staged a three-act play entitled “Seven for Sylvia,” and excellent production, in which the following players participated: Mrs Lloyd (Ada), Miss A. Bousficld (Mary) and Miss J. Bailey I (Jennie), three old maid sisters; M. Tilley (Sylvia), a niece; Miss O. Barnes (Grace Grubb, the house- : keeper), Miss J. Lloyd (Sarah Ann, the ' maid); and Mrs Bruce (Mrs Martin Smith, the squire's wife). The pto- , ducer was Mrs Bruce. Pianoforte accompaniments were , played by Mrs Wills and Miss 1 ! Howie. After supper, which was dispensed by members of the tennis social committee, the floor was cleared for danci mg, Mrs Wills providing an excellent Programme of dance music. Mr W. . Green was M.C. and the Monte Carlo waltz was won by Piper Morgan and •. liss I. Howie. The proceeds of the enterainment are to be devoted to the making of a new tennis court, and the result will be a very creditable sum. The social committee who arranged the successful effort were: Messrs H. j Campbell (president), J. Mcßeth, B ; Higgie, T. Renshaw, R. Dennison, K. i Blythe; Mesdames Green (secretary), II Lloyd Mcßeth. and Misses Barne.:, Bousficld, V. Higgie. M. Tilley, and J. ' J Christie, I
