LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

WANGANUIBRANCH The special features of the May meeting of the League of Mothers, held yesterday afternoon in McGruer’s Buildings, was the musical programme given by the members o. the Palmerston North branch of the League of Mothers, and an address on “The Youth of To-day” by Mr D. T. Allan. There was an attendance oi over 100, each member and visitor being welcomed on arrival by the door hostesses, Mesdames Orchard and Fear. Bowls of chrysanthemums, French marigolds and other autumn flowers with tinted foliage were everywhere, and made the room bright and colourful tor the gathering. In honour of the visitors the usual routine business was adjourned until next meeting. Mrs J. A. Hair presided and welcomed all present, including Mrs Daly, the president of the Palmerston North branch, Mrs E. T. Drake (secretary), members of the chuir, who were the guests of the afternoon. Mrs Ranaall conveyed greetings from the Epsom branch, Auckland. The thought for the day, given by hs Utt ley, was “Remember this ana >ear in mind that a faithful friend ; hard to find, but when you lind one Kind and true, never change the old *or the new.” Those who contributed to the afternoon’s pleasure were Mrs McLauchan (Palmerston North), who sang “I Know Not Why” and “Waiata Poi,” and later in the afternoon, sang “Down Here” and “My Heart’s Desire.” Much appreciated were the choir items “Happy Song,” “Greel,ngs” and “Happy Day.” A bounteous afternoon tea was served. Thanks were expressed to the Palmerston Kurth visitors for making the journey ;o Wanganui to be present and giving pleasure with their programme. Mrs Daly, on behalf of tne Palmerston North branch, thanked the Wanganui League of Mothers for the warm welcome given and the very pleasant afternoon.
