“SLAVE SHIP” AT CIVIC THEATRE Storming in epic sweep over half the world, as the last slaver sails on its last desperate voyage, “Slave Ship,” .will be finally screened this afternoon and evening at the Civic Theatre, giving the screen a new claimant for the title of mightiest of all the sea sagas. Twentieth Century-Fox's most spectacular pioduction of the year, “Slave Ship” costars Warner Baxter and Wallace Beery in a pulsing tale of the slavetrading era, with Elizabeth Allan and Mickey Rooney among those on the boat as, with decks reddened by mutiny, it roams the seas on its final fury-racked voyage. GRAND BALL AT CIVIC THEATRE. The opening ball of the season will be held in the Civic Theatre, Marton, on Friday evening neV under the auspices of the Rangitikei Branches of the Marsden Old Girls and Wanganui Old Boys. The ladies’ committee in charge of the supper and decorations report that splendid progress has been made and the supper will be one of the features of the ball. The Midnight Revellers' Orchestra will render a first-class programme of the latest and most popular dance music. The general committee intend to spare no effort in making the function one of the leading balls of the district. The prices are double tickets 12s 6d and single ticket 7s 6d. N.Z. NATIONAL PARTY'.
