DIVORCE OF ACTRESS

DECREE NISI GRANTED LONDON, May 2. The actress, Margaret. Rawlings* was granted a decree nisi on the grounds of the misconduct of her husband, the actor and producer, Gabriel Toyne. In evidence Miss Rawlings stated that Toyne wrote from Paris in 1936 stating that he did not intend to return to her. Both are well-known in Australia.

Miss Rawlings visited Wanganui several years ago when she appeared as Elizabeth Barrett in “The Barretts of Wimpole Street.” The play was produced by her husband. The actress figured in the news last year when she was invited to speak at a banquet given by the Oxford Group movement in London, at which she caused a sensation by criticising the movement in no uncertain terms. Miss Rawlings is the daughter of a minister.
