TROTTING

NON-TOTE FIXTURE “MATINEE” AT OTAKI GUY ZOLOCK WINS A DOUBLE The “matinee” meeting of the Otaki Trotting Club on Saturday proved an unqualified success, and judging by the large attendance is likely to achieve its purpose to increase the popularity of the sport in the district. The control of the meeting left little to be desired, and everything went off without the slightest hitch. The six races w'ere dispatched expeditiously, and some fine finishes were provided. The Otaki Trotting Club is striving hard for a permit to run a totalisator meeting, and. last Saturday’s carnival should at least draw attention to t-.ie club’s capabilities to handle a meeting. A feature of the afternoon was the splendid form shown by the Welling-ton-trained improver Guy Zolock. He was started in two events, and on each occasion won decisively. This gelding has been a long time in reaching his best, but age appears to have wrought a good deal of improvement in him, and he will only need to reveal the same form at the Nelson and Marlborough meetings to collect a stake or two. He was produced in splendid condition and reflected credit on J. F. Cotton. Results were:— Trial Handicap, £10; 3.5 class, 11 miles.—Guy Zolock, 48, 1; First Shake, scr., 2; Max Havoc, 36, 3.
