MANAWATU PROGRAMME NOMINATIONS ON FRIDAY. The Manawatu Racing Club s winter meeting, previously held in July, will be staged this season on Saturday, May 21, and an attractive card of eight events has been approved for the fixture. The entries are due by 9 o’clock next Friday. The programme is similar to last year’s, the only change being an increased prize for the Awapuni Steeplechase, 2* miles, which will now be worth £3OO. The Palmerston North Handicap, li miles, is endowed with £250, the hurdles and open seven furlongs carry £2OO each, and the Manawatu Hunt Cup Steeples (for hunters) and the hack events are worth £l5O each. There is also the usual gentleman rider’s event.
