FOR CRANLEIGH STUD

FILLY BY PANTHEON MR. J. G. ALEXANDERS PURCHASES Purchases at the Sydney sales last . month by Mr. J. G. Alexander, of the | Cranleigh Stud. Maxwell, comprised ! a Pantheon yearling filly and a Gil; Edge filly, the latter an unraced two-! year-old. The Pantheon filly may be lightly raced by Mr. Alexander, but the older filly is to be left on the! other side of the Tasman, to be mated' with the imported stallion, PortofinuJ The filly by Pantheon, sire of the I dual Melbourne Cup winner Peter; Pan, is from Loquacious (MagpieCharleville >, her dam being a fullsister to the 1925 Melbourne Cup winner Windbag. Loquacious herself was a stayer of note and won the Adrian Knox Stakes, and the Metropolitan Handicap (one mile, five furlongs), i Mr. Alexander's commissioners, Messrs. Mackmnon and Cox, of Mei-_ bourne, had to carry the bidding to' 500gns, to secure this filly for the i Maxwell studmaster. The two-year-old filly purchasedl for Mr. Alexander claims as her sire one of the highest priced purchases of the Australia sale-ring. Gilt Edge having born sold as a yearling fur 5200gns. Her dam. Isa. is a sister tv Trey, dam of Trivalve (Melbourne Cup winner’, and Deneb, grand-dam of Hall Mark, another dual Meloburne Cup winner. The pair referred to should make a valuable addition to the matron's! paddock at Cranleigh Stud, where Captain Bunsby and Rulanut are standing. Mr. Alexander has also received advice that the Ton Gallant mare Prodigy is being shipped this week to New Zealand, on a visit to Captain Bunsby. Prodigy is out of imported Marcovara, a full-sister to Varco, and is owned by Dr. Elliott True, of Melbourne, whose colours have been carried during the current season by Destiny Bay, which Heroic colt ran Nuffield to a head in the V.R.C. Sire’s Produce Stakes. No doubt the successes which have been achieved by progeny of Captain Bunsby in Australia have impelled the Victorian breeder to send Prodigy on a visit tu the Captain Cuttie horse.
