EMPLOYERS’ PRESIDENT RESIGNS
MR V. . J. GIBSON HUGHES LEAVING WANGANUI TRIBUTES TO HIS ZEAL FOR THE CITY Mr W. J. Gibson Hughes, president of the Wanganui Employers' Association, who is leaving Wanganui at the end of the month, tendered his resignation to the association at its last executive meeting. Mr G. Bennett, vice-president, expressed the association’s keen regret at the departure of Mr Hughes, stressing the amount of zeal he had shown in efforts to assist Wanganui and the energy he displayed in regard to the Employers’ Association and the welfare of employers generally. Mr Bennett said that the fine community spirit shown by Mr Hughes was worthy of emulation by many more who were prone to criticise, but who did little in the way of work for the good of Wanganui themselves. The association was losing the services of a very keen member and his place would be hard to fill. Other speakers referred to Mr Hughes in a similar strain, and a resolution was carried placing on record the association’s appreciation of his work and zeal during his term of office. Replying, Mr Hughes paid tribute to the wonderful co-operation he had received from the Employers’ Executive and all who had worked with him. The association had a very efficient secretary in Mr A. J. Weekes, he said. “After being a member ot the Wanganui Employers’ Association for the past ten years I will be leaving with many pleasant memories of my association with the city,” he added.
