RATES OF PAY ABOVE AWARDS MR. G. H. TROTT SPEAKS AT DURIE HILL. VOTE OF CONFIDENCE PASSED. In his address at Duric Hill on Saturday night, Mr. G. H. Trott, the Citizens’ League candidates for the Wanganui Mayoralty, said that it was usually expected that local bodies should be model employers. “The Municipal Corporation's Act provides that employees of local bodies shall receive at least the minimum wage provided for in awards governing those classes of labour employed,” he said. So far as he was aware, all the regular employees of the City j Council were paid more than the rul- I ing rate provided for similar kinds of I work. The council's employees recognised that they were being well treated, Mr. , Trott added, and showed their appre- I ciation by giving loyal service; be- j cause, after all. they recognised that 1 the City Council's interests were par- i ticularly their own. Mr. A. S. Dymock presided, and the following Citizens’ League candidates I addressed the meeting: Crs. A. E. i Halligan and G. E. Bennett, and i Messrs. J. F. Broad, L. W. Chisholm. 1 C. N. Armstrong, and W. B. Allan, the ; latter also being a candidate for the j Harbour Board. At the conclusion ' of the addresses a vote of confidence j in the league’s candidates was passed l unanimously.
