UMBRELLA HANDLES

If the ornamental handle of an umbrella is accidentally broken off and cannot be repaired, it may be replaced by a loop-handle of suede or' leather. Part of an old suede belt, or a piece of soft leather cut from an old handbag or pocket case, may be used to make the loop. The suede should first be cut out in a plain strip of the required length. It must then be folded in half and its ends carefully shaped so that when they are stitched together round the stump of the broken handle they will fit tightly. It is advisable to wrap the stump with insulating tape or adhesive plasted for an inch or so. This gives the stitched portion of the loop a much better grip than if it is fitted over a smooth surface.
