COMING-OF-AGE PARTY
To cslebrate the coming-of-age oi her eldest daughter, Gwen, Mrs S. Reid gave a dance in the Max Theatre, which was tastefully decorated in pastel-coloured streamers, balloons, and ferns. The stage was also decorated with bowls of ferns and chrysanthemums, in the centre of whicn stood the birthday cake, decorateu with lemon and pink icing and a large kewpie dressed in tartan kilts. Mrs Reid received about 250 guests attired in black georgette, with shoulder spray of pink flowers. Mis. Sybil Reid, who assisted her mother, was dressed in a picture frock ot fuchsia silk taffeta. The guest of honour was dressed in a dainty frock of cameo pink georgette. Music was supplied by the Sundowners’ Orchestra and after a delightful buffet supper, Miss Reid cut the cake., Mr R. J. Gibbs, of Utiku, proposed the toast of the King, and Mr McCombie the toast of the guest, who suitably replied an-’ thanked the guests for their lovely presents. Items were given during the evening by Misses Norah Mahpney and Betty Smith, Mrs H. Brewer and Mrs Randolf.
