HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETINGS

NEW COMMITTEES ELECTED

The biennial meetings of householders and parents in the various school districts in the Wanganui Education Board’s area were held last evening, when reports on the past year’s administration were submitted by the retiring committees.

It was unfortunate that inclement weather prevailed for it seriously affected the attendances. In one or two cases there were barely more than sufficient members to elect a committee and in at least two cases the meetings were abandoned on account of the poor attendances. The Wanganui Intermediate School will not hold its meeting until May 2. Committees elected and reports from the various districts are as follow: Queen’s Park. The retiring chairman, Mr W. J. Winter, precided over a fair attendance of parents and householders at the Queen’s Park School. A resolution was passed that the Central Dental Clinic continue to press for free dental treatment for ail primary school children, as had been promised from time to time by the Government.

The following committee was elected: Messrs J. Comrie (chairman), W. McElwain (secretary), E. Butler, P. Coleman, P. Cox, A. Glengarry, J. McColl, and Mesdames J. Comrie and W. McElwain.

Mesdames J. Comrie (re-elected) and W. McElwain were appointed to represent the committee on the committee of the Intermediate School.

Kaitoke School.

No householders attended the meeting to be held at Kaitoke and the meeting lapsed.

Mosston School,

The annual meeting of householders and parents to elect a committee for the Mosston School was postponed until a later date as no parents turned up. St. Johß’s Hill School.

There was a good attendance at the annual meeting at St. John's Hill School, Mr E. Ziesler presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet were presented and approved. The following committee was elected for the ensuing two years: Messrs R. S. Withers (chairman), C. E. Campbell (secretary), G. Babbage, H. Tipper, S. Newsome, and Mesdames A. McPhail and D. Murchie.

Wangaehu School.

There was a fair attendance at the meeting at the Wangaehu School, Mr A. E. Olsen presiding.

The following committee was elected: Messrs A. E. Olsen (chairman), J. M. S. Johns (secretary), C. H. Richardson, L. A. Mackintosh and J. J Bourke. Matarawa School There was a fair attendance of householders at the meeting at the Matarawa School, Mr. H. Campbell presiding. The following committee was reelected: —Messrs. H. Campbell (chairman), J. Bland, T. Watson, L. Bruce and J. Lewis. Mr. H. Campbell will also act as secretary of the committee. Marton District High School There was a good attendance at the Marton District High School meeting, when the following committee was elected: — Dr. R. A. Church (chairman) and Messrs. J. C. Thomas (secretary), H. Frederick, J. H. Dashwood, C. M. Holdaway, A. Grade, J. R. F. R. Wallace, T. C. Ward, A. T. Williams. Marton Junction There was only a fair attendance of householders at the meeting of householders at Marton Junction, when the following committee was elected:— Messrs. E. G. Friederich (chairman), J. H. Mainwaring (secretary), H. C. Gronn, J. Bone, A. H. Watts, M. Scrimgeour, T. Wigglesworth. Waitotara School The following committee was elected at the meeting at Waitotara:— Messrs. J. G. Verry, R. G. Verry, S. A. Warner, M. W. Watson and Mrs. Kathleen Handley. The chairman and secretary are to be elected at a later meeting of the committee. Keith Street School There was a good attendance at the meeting of householders at the Keith Street School, when the following committee was elected:— Messrs. J. A. Spurdie (chairman), A. Charles (secretary), J. B. Congreve, E. Burnard, G. McH. Kenyon, J. M. R. Mathews, O. E. Persson. R. O. Thomas and Mrs. T. White. Castlecliff School There was a good attendance of householders at the meeting at the Castlecliff School. The following committee was elected: —Mrs. E. P. Allan (chairman), S. Edinger (secretary), F. A. Beattie, H. Allan, T. W. Duncan, C. A. Langridge, Wm. J. Petitt, G. A. Young and Mrs. J. Robertson. Vpokongaro School There was a poor attendance at the U’aokongaro School when the following committee was elected: — Messrs. W. R. Ford (chairman), W. B. Willacy, W. C. Newsham (secretary), W. J. Penn and J. A. Todd. Durie Hill School There was a fair attendance of householders at the meeting of the Durie Hill School. The chair was occupied by Mr. G. W. Caird. In passing a vote of thanks to the retiring committee, the chairman mentioned the good work that had been done in the past two years and the healthy financial state. There was shown a credit balance of £lO 16s. The following committee was elected:— Messrs. G. W. Caird (chairman), K. Monk (secretary and treasurer), L. Bailey, W. J. Bolton, A. G. Grant, N. R. Lyth and V. C. Rapson. Wanganui East School There was a good attendance of householders at the meeting of the

Wanganui East School. The following committee was elected:— Messrs. N. Annabell (chairman), R. A. McCrae (secretary), R. S. Loder (treasurer), T. H. Doyle, J. C. Elliot, A. T. Tonks, O. T. Kitson, H. A, Dornbusch, and E. Fletcher. The dental committee was as follows:—Messrs. C. Bradley, A. G. Milla, S. Earles, J. Scott, W. Candish. Hill and Mrs. H. A. Dornbu ,f/ 'h. Aramoho Mr W. T. Benefield presided over n large attendance, there being some 70 present. The election resulted: Mr W. G. Price (chairman), Mr A. D. Simpson (secretary), Messrs L. G. Gosling, E. Hamling, W. P.
