SANSON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The president, Mrs. C. E. Eglinton I presided over a fair attendance at the | monthly meeting of the Sanson Womens’ Institute. Members stood in silence as an expression of sympathy for Mesdames J. Bradley, J. Beattie, McCorkindale and Waring-Taylor. Mrs. W. J. Rowan was unanimously elected to attend the Dominion conference to be held in Wellington in July. A discussion ensued on remits for the council meeting in Palmerston North. The president thanked all those who had helped to make the open evening and flower show such a success, and said special thanks were due to Mrs. F. Hill, and to the donors of trophies. The juniors then took charge of the evening, when a most interesting demonstration of pine needle basketmaking was given by Miss L. Gedye. A vocal solo by Miss N. Masters, and an elocutionary item by Miss D. Flyger were much appreciated. Mrs. Smith was in charge of a grocery list competition, the winner proving to be Mrs. F. S. Collier. An advertising competition arranged by Miss J. Butler was won by Mrs. W. Pearce and Miss Gedye.

A competition for the best bloom in the garden was won by Mrs. Gulbransen, with Mrs. Pearce securing second and third places. The president thanked the junior members for a most entertaining evening. It was resolved to hold a golden thread talk on nutrition, each member to lake a turn every month.
