SOCIAL AFTERNOON Another social afternoon was held at Mrs. Evans’ on Tuesday afternoon in aid of the Methodist circuit friends. Competition winners were: Representing a book, Mrs. Laurie Rose; quoits, Mrs. Len Rose; bean-throwing, Mrs. Carr. A stall did good business and as a result the circuit funds will benefit to the extent of £2 10s. During the afternoon opportunity was taken by Mrs. Evans to make a presentation of a Bible to Ruth Coombridge and a book to Donald, as farewell gifts, wishing them every success in their new circuit. Mr. Coombridge returned thanks. A heavy thunderstorm caused everyone to go inside, where afternoon tea was served. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Evans for the use of her house and garden. Rev. Coombridge, who departs for Halcombe this week, preached his farewell services throughout the district on Sunday. Opportunity was taken at the conclusion of the service by Mr. R. D. Rose to present Rev. and Mrs. Coombridge with a cheque in recognition of the valuable work they had done throughout the district. Rev. Coombridge returned thanks. WAIRAKEI DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB Members of the above club held a shoot on Saturday for a trophy donated by Mr. S. M. Meads. Conditions were only fair for shooting. Seven shots were fired on each range the scores being:—S. A. Meads, 32 (300yds.), 35 (200yds.), 29 (600yds.), 3 (handicap), 99 (total); A. R. Kirton, 26, 31, 28, 12, 97;, K. Carey, 22, 32, 28, 12, 94; S. M. Meads, 29, 30, 33, —, 92; J. Thompson, 32, 28, 31, 1, 92.

GENERAL NEWS A dance was held on Saturday evening in aid of funds for the Women’s Division of th® Farmers’ Union. Music was supplied by Messrs. J. Carr and S. Moess, and a most enjoyable time was spent by the large gathering present. Mr. N. Say welt was M.C. The Public Library intends holding a dance on Easter Monday night, when a good attendaice is j •'I-.-iled. PERSONAL Mr. D. T. Couper and his brother Mr. A. Couper, To Kawhata, returned from Timaru on Thursday, Mr. A. Couper and his son Mr. ’l’. C. Couper returning home on Saturday. Dr. McMeakin, Otaki, is staying with Mr. D. Couper. Mrs. G. W. Sherson and Miss D. Sherson, who have been staying with Mrs. J. Boshier, returned to Taumarunui on Saturday. Mrs. A. P. Pettigrew is holidaying in Christchurch.
