OLD EMPLOYEE RETIRES

THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS’ SERVO FIRM AND FRIENDS SAY I ARE WELL Employees of the firm of Messrs. John Jones and Sons, builders, gathered last evening to farewell an old member, Mr. W. Taylor. A pleasant evening was spent interspersed with songs by Mr. F. G. Scddon, and community singing. Mr. Taylor was presented with a rug from his workmates, as a mark of the esteem in’ if which ho was held. Representing the lirm Messrs. Garland Jones, Norman Jones, and Idris Jones each spoke briefly, all paying tribute to the retiring workman for his services in the long period he had been in their employ. The presentation was made by Mr. H. P. Browne, who referred to his long and pleasant association with Mr. I aylor. He recalled early days when be had worked with him, and incidents connected with his career. Mr. Taylor, in accepting the rug, said that he had joined the flrm in 1900, working at the ruling wage of 7s a day He recounted how he had been tempted to leave in the first lew days, but he had kept on and now was retiring after 38 years in their service. He recalled various works which had been done by the firm through the years, and his associations with many of those who were present. A most pleasant function concluded with community singing and “Auld Lang Syne.” Music was supplied b\ Mr. R. Smythies (violin), and R Oliver (piano). ■
