Meteorological Office, Wellington, Friday, April 1, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone of considerable intensity is now centred to the eastward. A depression is still located between East Cape and the Kermadecs, but is filling up. The cyclone off the central east coast of Australia is moving south-eastward. Forecast.— Winds; Between east and north moderate to strong generally and, in places, rising to gale force. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough north of Cape Campbell and in parts of the Cook Strait area; elsewhere, slight to moderate but rising, especially on the west coast. Eastern Tasman: Strong north-east to northerly winds reaching gale force in places; seas, becoming rough. Weather: Mainly cloudly to overcast, but otherwise fine at first; scattered rains in the Auckland province’ however, and gradually becoming more widespread and fairly general rain probable during the week-end; temperatures warm.
