NEW PLYMOUTH TRACKS

HORSES FOR STRATFORD THURSDAY’S GALLOPS. The best gallops on the New Plymouth tracks on Thursday morning were the efforts of Clessamor over a mile and a splendid five furlongs by Autosweep, writes “Rapier,” in the Taranaki Herald. As the tracks still require a good soaking most trainers were content to use the plough, which was in excellent order. Tne course proper was available, however, and here Ohanga and members of H. Gray’s stable completed their final gallops for the Stratford meeting. Ohanga was not after time while travelling over a round, although the working gallop showed him to be very lit for his Anniversary Handicap engagement. Shangri La went slowly from the six furlongs' post, but as soon as he became warmed up the pace was increased and he was bowling along very freely at the end. The journey occupied 1.20, and the last three furlongs in 42sec. Blab was paired with Wynardo in the early stages of a five furlongs’ essay, but the former was eased up at the turn. Wynardo came home strongly and there appears little wrong with his condition for Saturday’s race. Autosweep drew attention to his Stratford chances by recording an excellent effort over Jive furlongs in 1.2. He is vastly improved as the result of recent racing, so that he may be a good investment on Saturday. His prospects would be greatly enhanced if he were to strike a soft track. Sporting Song and Davistock were, paired over a circuit, and wound up the last five furlongs in 1.5. Lady Kyra impressed more than Windsoreen at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.16 1-5, while over a furlong shorter Glenthawn recorded 1.3 l-ssec. Clessamor is very fit at present as he demonstrated by running a mile in 1.43 —time seldom excelled on the local tracks . He may surprise at Stratford and dodge the appellation “second day horse.” Bonny Glow accounted for Booklaw over seven furlongs in 1.304. Both are doing very well on the tracks and should make forward showings in their respective engagements.
