Mr. J. R. Russell. I president of the club, expressed I pleasure at the interest taken in the | demonstration, and briefly introduc- j ed the speakers, Messrs. M. Moreland, | of Hamilton; E. E. Elphick, of Pal- ' merston North; and C. G. C. Dormer, ' of Cheltenham. Mr. Moreland spoke of the varia- -‘ tions in condition of cattle exhibited, ‘ and said that veyy often exhibits ■ were handicapped through being ' brought into the judging ring in poor ■ condition. This made judging appear : inconsistent at times, and the ! speaker detailed various common ! faults in shpw appearance. He dis- j agreed with strict “line” breeding, and ; said that breeders should start, with ■' a sound, good foundation, and aim at ! th-? right kind of cross. ; Mr. Elphick delivered an instruc- ■ i five address on cattle ailments, par-I j ticularising troubles associated with | i calving, and the mastitis control I scheme. ; Mr. Dermer spoke interestingly of i observations during his recent visit to ! Jersey Island, England, and said that ! he saw no better cattle there than I in New Zealand. The cattle exhibit- I ed at .'lew Plymouth were outstanding. j Afternoon tea was served, adding i to the pleasure of the outing. THE REST ROOM During his trip to the Yukon and I South Pacific islands, Mr. K. W. Dal- I rymple took many reels of superb moving pictures, most, in colour, and Mr. Dalrymple has kindly consented to show his pictures in Bulls Town Hall on Monday evening, the proceeds being in aid of the Rest Room funds.
