MINISTER VISITS FOXTON UNEMPLOYMENT INVESTIGATED [ Per Press Association. ] FOXTON, March 31. The Minister of Labour, Hon. H. T. Armstrong, visited Foxton to-day in connection with unemployment resulting from the closing of the llax mills Hewas accorded a civre welcome at the Council Chambers by the Mayor, Mr M. E. Perreau. Later at the Town Hall he addressed a large gathering when representations were made that certain works bo undertaken as employment measures. The Minister promised to place all able-boaied men at present on susten • ance in Foxton and indicated that consideration would be given to overhauling the borough sewerage, which had been damaged by earthquakes and was liable to collapse. Discussing the flax industry, the Minister expressed the hope that the rehabilitation of the industry would be possible as a result of the operation of the New Zealand woolpack and further development along similar lines. An inspection was made of the woolpack factory and Moutoa flax area.
