Mr. F. J. Hill, secretary of tht Automobile Association (Wanganui; is on a visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Orr, of Sanson, left by ths Wanganella on Thursday for a holiday in Melbourne and Sydney. M Edmond Meyer, until recently Consul for France, left by the Swartenhondt for Singapore, where he will join a liner for France. He was accompanied by' Madame Meyer and their niece, Miss I. Hi’boid. Mr. A. S. Burgess was re-elected president at the annual meeting of the Western Federated (N. 1. Flying Club at Wanganui on Saturday even' ' ing. Mr. Burgess was also elected as the club’s representative on the New Zealand Aero Clue. Rev. Father L. Brice, who has been j stationed in Wanganui for the past I three years, and who lias been appointed to the Marist Mission staff, | left for Wellington on Friday. He ' lias been replaced by Rev. Father i McHardy, of St. Patrick’s College. Acting-Pilot Officer W. Harcourt Coleman, of Devonport, has been awarded the special assessment of “distinguished pass” on the completion of his course of instruction at No. 6 Flying Training School, Netheravon, England. Mr. Thomas J. Austin, B.Sc., was appointed by' the Gisborne High School Board of Governors at a meeting, to a C grade position on the staff of the Gisborne High School, as an engineering instructor. The appointment is subject, to his acceptance. Mr. Austin is at present assistant-engineer on the staff of the New Zealand Herald, Auckland. Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, underwent a minor operation at his home in Epsom, Auckland, on Friday. The operation was successful, and it is expected that he will be confined to his bea for a few days only. Mr. Parry had not been in his usual state ol health for two or three weeks, and the operation was performed on medical advice.
The death occurred on Saturday afternoon of Mr William Ernest Forward, of George Street, Aramoho, a member of the Main Body of the N.Z.E.F. and later of the 14th Reinforcements. Mr Forward, whose short illness developed rapidly into double pneumonia, was aged 54 and leaves a widow and four sons and six daughters. Interment took place at the Aramoho Cemetery yesterday afternoon, a lengthy cortege following from the residence to the cemetery, where the burial service was read by the Rev. R. Godfrey. The pall-bear-ers were three sons (Messrs Douglas, John and C. E. Forward), Mr Leri Campbell (brother-in-law) and Messrs F. Jones and D. Ghent (representing the Returned Soldiers’ Association). °
