I Miss James, Melbourne, who has been visiting Mrs W. V. Parker, Hawera, is now with friends in Wanganui. Mrs W. J. Gardiner, who has been visiting Wellington for the Girl Guide executive meeting, has returned to her home at Wanganui. Miss Julie Worry, Wanganui, who gave a broadcasting recital last Wednesday night, has left on the Wanganella for Sydney, where she will further her singing career. Miss Helen Benbow, general secretary of the Toe H League of Women Helpers in London, is visiting Christchurch, and is the guest of Mrs H. Tod, Chapter Street. I Miss Bona Stevenson and her two brothers, Messrs Lourie and Norman Stevenson, of Gonville, left on Tuesday morning by car for a tour of the North Island. Mr and Mrs L. IL Slade, of Gisborne, are visitors to Wanganui. Mr and Mrs Moore Hunter have -returned from Lake Taupo. Mrs Dorothy Christie has been holidaying in New Plymouth. * * * * Miss Margaret Brinkman was a Wanganui visitor to Wellington this u eek. Mrs A. A. Crammond and Miss N. , Crammond, of Wellington, are visitors to Wanganui. Mrs E. M. Cranstone and Miss Joan Cranstone, of Fordell, are visitors to Wellington.

Misses E. Brown, I. Cook and M Brown are Wanganui Guiders at Wallis House, Lower Hutt, attending the training camp which is being conducted there by Miss Margaret Knight, a diploma Guider from England. CROQUET WON BY THE GONVILLE CLUB The Gonville Croquet Club challenged the Wanganui East Croquet Club (the holders of the Wedderspoon Cup), which was accepted, and played at Wanganui East. Ideal weather conditions and fast greens made play delightful for the players, * Detailed results are as follow, Gonville being mentioned first: — Mrs Garline 26, Mrs Walpole 21. Mrs Murphy 15, Mrs Bradshaw 26. Mrs Lynch 26, Mrs Redpath 3. Mrs F. Warnock 26, Mrs Chapman 22. This proved a most interesting match. Wanganui East greens attracted many croquet players and visitors to witness some very keen play, and many thrills were experienced by the players. Weekly Inter-Club Play. I FORDELL SWIMMING CLUB VISITORS ENTERTAINED i ; The visiting New Zealand Empire Games representatives—Misses Leydon, MacDonald, Rix and their chaperone, Mrs. Isaacs, were on Wednesday evening the guests of honour of the Fordell Swimming Club at a very successful dance held in the Fordell Public Hall. Earlier in the evening they were the guests of the president, Mr. W. Green, and Mrs. Green at a small dinner party. At the dance Mrs. Isaacs wore a frock of dark green oriental cloque; Miss Mona Leydon was in a dainty frock of lemon organdie muslin; Miss Joyce MacDonald was in pale pink satin with an overdress of silk net and amethyst velvet sash; while Miss Gwen Rix wore a frock of pale green Grecian satin with gold girdle. There was a large attendance at the dance, including many Wanganui visitors. The stage was prettily decorated with tall palms and bowls of flowers, while a corner of the hall was converted into a lounge. Excellent music was supplied by the Midnight Revellers’ Orchestra, extras being contributed by Mrs. Nesbit and Mr. Roydhouse. Messrs. B. Higgie, D. Higgie and W. W. Gordon proved efficient M.C’s. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss Bouslield and Mr. D. O’Leary, the spot waltz being won by Miss Rix and partner. During the evening occasion was taken by the president (Mr. Green) to extend thanks to the visiting ladies foi the valuable assistance rendered by them in the interest of swimming in this district and as a mark of appreciation each guest of honour was prpsented with a handsome gift. Each ! lady was also the recipient of a dainty floral posy, the presentation being made by’Mesdames Green and Stewart and Misses Tilley and Bousfield respectively. Mrs. Isaacs responded on behalf of the ladies’ team, expressing thanks to the Fordell Swimming Club and the residents of Fordell who had given them such a splendid welcome and made their stay here a very pleasant one. She paid a tribute to the young ladies who were no doubt the three most talented swimmers in New Zealand. The guests were then accorded musical honours. Present at the function was Mr. Toni Arbuthnott, of Fordell, captain of the New Zealand Olympic Games team, who went, to Berlin in 193 G.
