PUBLIC MEETING AT WANG ANUI. THE MAYOR TO TAKE THE CHAIR, i The Mayor of Wanganui (Mr. W. J.l Rogers) has consented to take the! chair at the public meeting in the Opera House, Wanganui, on Tuesdaynight next at which the Leader of the Opposition (Hon. Adam Hamilton) will address the electors on the socialistic trends of the Labour Government’s legislation. It is customary for a Mayor of a town to take the chair whenever the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition or Minister of the Crown addresses a public meeting, and this will be the first occasion since the death of | Mr. H. E. Holland, that Mr. Rogers as ; Mayor has had the opportunity of ex-: tending this courtesy to a leader of i the Opposition. This will be the first occasion on | which Mr. Hamilton has spoken at | Wanganui at a public meeting since I he has been leader of the Opposition 1 and the National Party, or, in lact. | since he has been in Parliament. For ■ that reason alone his meeting will be ' largely attended. With the ever-m- ■ creasing interest which is being taker, in the political situation in Wanganu. by both men and women, the visit of Mr. Hamilton will be welcomed by the i electors, particularly by members of. the National Party in Wanganui, who are keenly looking forward to meeting ■ their leader.
