Quirk) presided over a satisfactory attendance.

The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £29 19s 2d in the general fund and £ll 9s Id in the injured players’ fund. The chairman stated in his annual report that the club had enjoyed a most successful season and he wished to congratulate the Pirates juniors on winning the junior championship. The seniors had been beaten by a better team in the Senior Cup competition, but though they had failed to win the Cup they had enjoyed the confidence of the public, which had given the team every encouragement. The silver jubilee of the club had proved a great success and the way players and supporters of other clubs had turned up as well as members and old players of the Pirates Club had been most gratifying. Many of those present had come a long distance to attend the jubilee and everybody had remarked upon the orderly nature of' the gathering which they described as one of the best of its kind which they 1 had ever attended. Great credit was due to the committee which organised the function. Proceeding, Mr. Quirk said that the Pirates Club had donated a cup to the Taihape District High School with the object of encouraging football amongst the younger generation. The thanks of the club were due to Mrs. Bradley for donating two cups to be presented to the most improved senior and junior players. Mr. J. Missen had donated a medal, while Mr. S. Wheeler had also given a handsome donation. The speaker went on to refer to the valuable services rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Goer in promoting social functions for the benefit of the club. The funds of the club would not be in such a healthy state but for the efforts of Mr. and Mrs. Goer. (Applause.)

The speaker thanked ex-players for coming forward to fill a breach when required and added that the club was deeply indebted to its supporters for their splendid assistance during the past few years. These supporters had offered financial assistance and had placed their cars at the disposal of the club and had helped in other ways and no words of his could adequately express the club’s gratitude. Mr. Quirk said that he had attended a meeting of delegates to discuss the Moye scheme and he thought that the scheme had much to commend it though he did not think that the players themselves should be taxed. The scheme was certainly a good idea as there was no denying the fact that Rugby was “slipping” badly in Taihape. In conclusion Mr. Quirk thanked the Rugby Union for its fair treatment towards the Pirates Club. Thanks were also conveyed to the Referees’ Association, St. John Ambulance and the Press. Election of Officers The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as under:—Patron, Mr. J. Bridson; president, Mr. S. Walker; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. D. Bond, E. Owen, J. Quirk, D. Noagle, H. Galbraith; hon. secretary, Mr. W. Munro; executive committee, Messrs. C. Quirk, C. Derbidge, M. Keating, A. McDonald, D. George, M. Goer, D. McGonagle, B. Cleaver, R.
