AUTUMN BLOOMS

WONDERFUL DISPLAY AL RATA SHOW The second annual show of the dahlia, gladioli and aster show, held under the auspices of the Rata-J. ut.orino Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, was held m the Coronation Hall, at Rata, on Wednesday, and during the afternoon and evening was well patronised. With over one hundred classes, competition was very keen, and in some classes there were seventeen entries. The committee had taken great pains in staging the exhibits, which made a wonderful show and attracted a good deal of attention. The committee of the Women's Division are to be congratulated on their successful effort, and amongst the workers were Mesdames G. Harvey (president), C. Raine (secretary), S. Hart, E. Pickford, M. Hill-Motion, N. Signal and G. Gray, and Messrs E. O. Pryce and A. H. Rhodes. The judges were: Mr F. Mason, dahlias; Mesdames A. Williams and G. Oliver, asters and cut flowers; Mrs W. Sutton and Mrs J. Wood, decorative; Mrs L. Hammond and S. A. R. Mair, preserves, cooking and fancy wtrk; Mr S. A. R. Mair, vegetables and fruit. During the afternoon, Mrs Duncan Simpson, president Women’s Division Provincial Executive Committee, in opening the show, congratulated the committee on the excellent display of blooms and the splendid manner in which the exhibits were staged, and presented the trophies won as points prizes to the winners, who were heartily applauded.
