ATHLETIC SPORTS

PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ GATHERING TO-MORROWS BIG EVENT More than 3000 entries have been received for the twelfth annual sports meeting of the Wanganui Primary Schools’ Athletic jAssociation, to be held at Cook’s Gardens to-morrow. In the folk dancing display arranged by Miss Methven nearly 300 girls will be seen in action. This will commence at 2.30 p.m. At two o’clock a gymnastic display will be given by Y.M.C.A. members. All the competing schools will parade at approximately 3 p.m. The results and positions of the competing schools will be announced through a system of loud speakers. No trophies are awarded for any of the events and thus the children compete for the sake of the sport and not reward. As a result of the sports, Stanley McKay’s Gaieties have abandoned their Friday afternoon matinee. There will now be a matinee on Saturday only. I
