YOUNG MEN’S CLUB

PARENTS ENTERTAINED Nearly a hundred parents accepted the invitation of the members of the Church of England (Christ Church) Young Men’s Club last Wednesday for the concluding monthly social of the year, the arrangements for which were carried out by club members. The hall had been decorated for lhe occasion in a colour scheme of lemon and green with holly, and a chandelier of silver hangings and fairy lights. The platform was banked with flowers and the decorations of lhe supper tables sot in the Bible class room were carried out in pink and lavender sweet peas, while two chandeliers were in frost and gold. An excellent programme of oldtime dances, including a “Parents Only” waltz, “Mother and Son” and “Father and Daughter” Gay Gordons, Monte Carlo and lucky spot, to splendid music supplied by Miss V. Greagoi and Mr S. Lee, was interspersed with competitions, a well-acted and produced mystery play, harmoniously balanced quartettes, an effective campfire sing, and individual solos. The committee responsible and taking part in the play and various items were: Messrs V. C. Thomas (president), G. Foster, P. Pritchard (secretaries), R. Gannon, R. Russell, V. Cooke, D. Walker, A. Kendall, S. Gifford-Moore, B. Pritchard, F. Rule, G. Strachan, J. Curtis, C. Pocock, and L. McCarthy. Prior to supper, the president of

the club, Mr V. C. Thomas, extended a hearty welcome, and expressed his appreciation of the attendance of parents and friends, being supported by the vicar, the Ven. Archdeacon J. R. Young, M.A. Occasion was taken by Mr Gibb Foster, club secretary, Io voice the regard the members held for their president, and in a well expressed and able speech asked him to accept, as a token of esteem and sincere appreciation, a handsome bedroom clock for which Mr Thomas made suitable reply. The. social terminated in the small hours of the morning.
