GREYHOUND RACING

WANGANUI CLUB I SATURDAY'S RESULTS On Saturday, in perfect weather, the Wanganui Greyhound Racing Club conducted its weekly meeting on Spriggens Park before a good attendance. The increasing popularity of this sport was verified by the large “gate.” The racing was good, although the times were slow, but this can be attributed to the long grass on the course. The Wanganui champion, Mosquito Boy, was not a starter on Saturday owing to his owner resting him in preparation for his attempt to “collect” the New Zealand championship at Napier on Boxing Day. Mosquito Boy has an even chance of bringing home this honour and Wanganui followers will wish him luck. All events on Saturday were run over a distance of 300 yards and the results were:— Imlay Stakes.—H. Ford's Silver Hawk 1, Miss P. Holly's Smiling Thru 2, Miss R. Jackson’s Springbok 3. Motua Hurdles.—Mrs H. Higgs' Flying Tackle 1, Mr E. Filer's Ben Braggie 2, F. Hoskins’ Silver Ring 3. Jumping brilliantly, Flying Tackle led into the straight from Ben Braggie, and held on to win nicely. Nosey Parker fell at the second hurdle. I.X.L. Stakes.—Mrs F. McCartney's Flight Lieutenant 1, Mrs F. Riding’s Balgownie Queen 2, Miss R. Jackson's Springbok 3. Balgownie Queen led to the first turn from Springbok, where Flight Lieutenant took command and won easily. Rugby Stakes.—F. Hoskins’ Silver Ring 1, M. H. Higgs’ Movie Star 2, Miss M. Holly’s Wait and See 3. Movie Star led to the first turn, where Silver Ring went to the front and was not troubled to flash past the post an easy winner. Tawhero Stakes.—E. J. Holly’s The Monk 1, Mrs I. Ford’s Smoke Bellew and F. McCartney’s Dawn Patrol, dead-heat, 2. The Monk jumped out from the box and was never troubled to lead all the way and win easily. Braeburn Hurdles.—Miss M. Holly's Wait and See 1, Mr F. Hoskins’ Silver Ring 2. Mr H. Higgs’ Flying Tackle 3. Wait and See ran a splendid race, jumping well, to win nicely. Club Stakes.—Mrs E. J. Holly’s The Monk 1, Mrs F. Riding’s Balgownie Queen 2, Mrs J. Ford's Sea Picture 3. The Monk jumped out from the box and set a hot pace, with Balgownie Queen challenging strongly all the way. Balgownie Queen ran her best race of the season to finish a good second to The Monk. Putiki Stakes.—Mrs J. Ford’s Smoke Bellew 1, Mr F. McCartney’s Dawn Patrol 2. Harry’s Gift and Dawn Patrol raced together for the turn into the straight with Smoke Bellew lengths behind. Harry’s Gift and Dawn Patrol stopped and Smoke Bcllew went through to win from Dawn Patrol. Harry’s Gift was pushed off the course. Metropolitan Hurdles.—Mrs 11. Higgs’ Flying Tackle 1, Mr E. Filer's Ben Braggie 2, Mr H. Ford’s Silver Ring 3. Flying Tackle and Ben Braggie held command and jumped well to finish in this order after an exciting race. Chronicle Stakes.—H. Ford's Silver Hawk 1, Miss P. Holly’s Smiling Thru 2. Silver Hawk jumped out smartly at the start and led all the way to win easily.
