DOUBLE DROWNING
NEAR WAIHI BEACH DINGHY CAPSIZES LN DARKNESS [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. A double drowning fatality occurred at Bowentown, near Waihi Beach, at about 9 o’clock on Saturday evening. The victims were:— George Chilker, aged 53 years, a mining pensioner, of Waihi, married, with two children. Harry Saussey, aged 52 years, a miner of Wahi, also married, with three young children. Together with two other men, Benpamin Morris and Septimus Henderson, both of Waihi, they were fishing from a dinghy in the Bowentown channel. At about 9 o’clock a heavy swell came up and the men decided to make for the shore. While they were pulling up the anchor, however, it fouled an obstruction, pulling the boat down by the bow 7. The dinghy quickly flooded and turned over. All four men struck out for the shore, which was obscured by the darkness and the heavy seas, but only two of them succeeded in reaching it.
